So, what is Yoga ?
Yoga is a Sanskrit word in itself and it is derived from the root yuj meaning to join or unite. The literal translation means “to join or unite.” So Yoga eventually came to be a means by which people could unite their minds and bodies (breath), thus becoming a union of the physical body with the mind.

So, what really is aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is the practice of using plant materials (essential oils) to support mood, affect feelings, and improve wellbeing. Aromatherapy has been around for centuries. Anytime we inhale a distinct aroma, it will be processed through the brain in a special sequence. It first travels to the olfactory system, responsible for controlling our sense of smell. The olfactory system, responsible for controlling our senses and is connected to the limbic system which is responsible for our memories and is where our emotions live.
The idea behind using aromatherapy during yoga for emotional benefit is that you choose certain essential oils to trigger the desired feelings and emotions. Every essential oil can be divided into one of two categories based on its chemical constituents—uplifting or calming.

This class: Will combine essential oils in a diffuser, optional topical application of your choice of essential oils to palms and feet. We will flow at all levels allowing you to honor your own needs and choose variations that serve your level of practice while we focus on deep breath work throughout the class.

About the teacher: Carie is a 500 hour Kripalu certified yoga teacher with over ten years of teaching experience. She is passionate about yoga and yoga as a lifestyle. She encourages her students to carry their practice of mindfulness off the mat and into their daily life.
